Blissful and Domestic - Creating a Beautiful Life on Less: April 2010

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

I don't know about you, but it just kills me when we save leftovers but they go unused. My hubby is not really a big leftover re-heater, so I must find creative ways to make something new out of what we had earlier in the week. I was just looking for a yummy recipe for leftover egg noodles and I happened upon this site. What a neat site it is and how wonderful for Tammy to share all her yummy recipes that deal with our leftovers that sit in our fridge waiting to be eaten up. Anyways I just had to share. I already have ribs in the oven, but I am planning on making this for dinner tomorrow with some of my leftovers. My tummy is already waiting in anticipation :>

31 cent Scoop Night

I just wanted to let everyone know that next Wednesday, April 28th from 5pm-10pm Baskin Robbins is doing a 31 Cent Scoop Night to help honor America's firefighters. The Baskin-Robbins Community
is donating $100,000 to the National Fallen
Firefighters Foundation™ (NFFF).
Participating stores will reduce prices of ice cream
scoops to 31 cents*. At some locations, you may also have
an opportunity to make a donation to your local fire charities.

Just wanted to share with everyone so you can enjoy a yummy night out with your family next Wednesday for next to nothing. Hope everyone enjoys the ice cream!

Outdoor Wednesday

Yesterday we had such a fun time outdoors that I thought I should share it today in my outdoor Wednesday post. If you want to see what other people are doing outdoors hop on over to A Southern Day Dreamer.

Now for our day of being outdoors we started by venturing into the jungle, formally known as our backyard. We desperately needed to pick weeds and this will actually take us a few days (this proves just how bad the weeds are), but we started in one little section and we pulled weeds and then started raking the leafs, trash (the winds has brought many treasures into the backyard), and rocks so we can create a space for the kids to have their own little garden. It was such a wonderful feeling being out in the warmth. We have been blessed lately with some great weather and Miss Priss, bubba, and myself have caught the gardening bug. We love to be out there digging in the dirt. This is always odd for me to say because before children I was absolutely not an outdoorsy person, but they have converted me :>

Anyways after we spent our day in the sun (I have the sunburn to prove it) we went over to Holly and Justins for dinner and then to hangout in their garden. Aunt Holly was so sweet and invited Miss Priss and Bubba over to help put worms in their garden. The kids loved it.

Overall it was such a sweet day spent with family. If you have not been venturing outdoors I strognly encourage you. Enjoy this wonderful weather especially before it hits the 100's (for those who live in Las Vegas).

Even Babies love the outdoors. My Niece is so cute with her scrunchy face smile
Nothing like an outdoor picnic for lunch:>

This si one section we worked on. The weeds were just covering this adorable little orange tree my motherinlaw has. The after picture below is much better:>
While pulling the weeds by the beloved orange tree I was wounded. Under the weeds and leaves there was a piece of a cactus that the wind had hidden. I guess the wind wanted me to get poked. The kids were surprised I was not crying and that I even wanted to take a picture before Grandma came to the rescue. I have to prove to my mom and dad that I can pull weeds. Yes Mom I did it I pulled weeds and have the wound to prove it :>

I Need You Fly Lady...

I am need of the fly Lady very much lately. I have let things get a tad out of control...well really that might be an is just I like things to be super clean and I have been having a hard time staying on top of things like the sink not being full of dishes. I feel their just isn't enough time or energy for me to keep up with it all, so I am taking a new approach this week. I am going to do some of the Fly Lady's beginner steps to creating a clean home. I may not do them everyday, but I am going to attempt to. I will post here my progress and maybe some of you will want to join in as well.

now on to step one: Step one is go clean your sink. Keeping our sinks white and clean really does just make the whole kitchen look brighter and better. This is where I struggle everyday.

I pray God will help me make my home a haven where the Spirit can reside and uplift us. Amen

The Year of Saying YES!

"Let it be done unto me according to Thy word." Luke 1:38

I have been gone so long from my blog I have tons of post I was working on and then forgot about for 2 months. Man time flies when you are busy. Well here is a post from January I think. I took these pictures one rainy day. The kids had been pleading with me to take them outside to run in the puddles. At first I just kept thinking about how I didn't want to get wet and cold, but then I remembered something I had read on a friends blog: Make this a Year of Saying Yes. Of saying yes to your kids when they want to go outside and play or play a board game with you. Make the time for them evern if it means the dishes sit for a while longer. It is funny how this has already made a great impact on my relationship with my kiddos. I feel closer. I no longer feel like the bad guy because I have to say "no not now" or "maybe later when there's time". I want them to know that mommy loves to spend time with them and just how important they are to me. So I put the thoughts of cold and wet aside and took them to jump in puddles in the backyard. It turned out to be so much fun! I enourage you all to make this your year to say yes!

Also here is a link to read more about the year of yes!

Seeing those smiles reminds of why I love to be a mom. I am thankful for my Heavenly Father who has in-trusted me with two of his sweet spirits. I am thankful for a husband who supports me and supports my role in being a wife and mother. I pray for all those mothers out there today who are just having one of "those days" we all have had one of those days where everything feels chaotic and out of whack. The kids are cranky or just mad. I pray that God will be with you..... that he will strengthen you and comfort you. Our role as a mom is the most important thing we will do while on this earth. Bask in the knowledge and enjoy it. God is God!

Preschool: Colors and Shapes

A great thing we do to help Miss Priss and Bubba with their shapes is we play Perfection. I use the timer for bubba, but not for Miss Priss, since it still takes her longer to fit all her pieces in. This has helped them  a lot with their shapes and sizes of shapes. We also did a great color activity.

We also have been learning how the three primary colors make all the other colors and I wanted to to be able to have them mix the paints with their hands, but I was not looking forward to the mess. So I put some paint on a plate, covered it with clear wrap and let them mix away. It was very cool seeing the colors blend and change. Here are just a few things we have been doing lately. What fun activities have you been doing lately?

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella (Twilight Saga)

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella (Twilight Saga)

Has anyone else heard much about this book? I just happened to be on amazon and saw this pop up. I love Stephanie Meyers and of course the twilight series. I am just a bit confused is this book part of that series or something totally different? Let me know if anyone has any info on it. Either way I am excited to read some thing new from such an amazing author :>
