Faux Mercury Glass Ornament:

Hi again, Blissful and Domestic readers! Jill, here from Create.Craft.Love. Once again, Pottery Barn has inspired me to create something fabulous! Today I am going to share with you my Faux Mercury Glass Ornament!

Wanna see a pic of my original inspiration?

Pottery Barn Mercury Glass Polar Bear Ornament

Here's what you need to make your own!
Power drill with 1/32 drill bit
17/32 inch screw eyes
Plastic polar bear figurine
Krylon Looking Glass Spray Paint
Ribbon or twine (to hang)
Ever since the foot going through the glass stitches incident {you can read about that here}, I am not allowed to use power tools. {Or any tools for that matter..LOL} So I enlisted the help of my non-bloggin' hubby to help me drill a hole in my polar bear. Find the bear's center of gravity and use that as a mark of where to drill your hole.

Next, I screwed in one of the screw eyes until it was secure.

Then the bear and I took a little trip to the spray paint area in my garage. I applied five light coats of Krylon Looking Glass spray and let it dry over night.

Once the ornament was dry, I attached some red ribbon to hang it from the tree.I ADORE this ornament! Personally, I think my Faux Mercury Glass Ornament looks better than the original!

  1. Wow this is great and yes! Yours does look better than the original.. Hmm foot through glass incident? Yeah, Im going to have to go read that now.LOL
    Robyn :)

  2. Beautiful ornament. I do like your version much better. The PB one doesn't look much like a polar bear.

  3. Very cool. I'll have to try this. And just in time for our year of unbreakable ornaments due to having a new puppy!

  4. Going through the archives on your sight Danielle....this is a great craft! I might just have to do this, I'm thinking of doing it with pine cones. I love it!
