Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal

One of my all time favorite breakfasts has got to be oatmeal. We use to purchase the instant box mixes from the store, but last year I learned how easy it was to make it yourself. Since then I have said no to store bought mixes and whip some up myself instead. It is super easy and seriously so quick. You can use this recipe and have a hot breakfast waiting for your children in under 10 minutes. Ready to make some?

Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal

2 cups quick cooking oats
 4 cups water
1/3 cup dry powdered milk
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup raisins (optional)
pure maple syrup

Add oats, water, and powdered milk to a pot. Cook until mixture begins to thicken. Add brown sugar and raisins. Allow to cook for 3-4 minutes. Serve in bowls with maple syrup drizzled over the top.

Serves 4-5 people

This is a filling, yummy breakfast. Make some today for your family.

XO Danielle

  2. I eat oatmeal about 5 times a week! I put vanilla yogurt, splash of milk and them something for texture, I love walnuts but lately it's been chopped apples.

  3. Have you ever made it without the powdered milk? That's something that I don't have in the house generally and I'm wondering if I could just leave it out of it if would mess with the proportions.

    1. If you want to do it without the powdered, just reduce the water by a cup and you should be fine.

  4. I put ground flax seed in it too. :)

    2. If you have bread that needs to be eaten, I like to take the bread and break it up,(french loaf, sourdough, Italian) any kind of bread, about half a loaf. Place in a large well buttered casserole dish, in another bowl, beat 6 eggs with a cup of mile, a pinch of salt, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 1 tsp. sugar, half a tsp. of nutmeg, mix well, pour over bread. Seal with foil, let sit over night in fridge. Next morning pull foil back and put about 4 tsp. of butter on the top, cover and seal again, place in a 375 degree oven, back 30 minutes, remover cover, back for another 10 to 15 minutes. Serve hot with favorite syrup.

  5. I totally agree with you that this is so much better than the oatmeal packes. My husband has been making this for me several mornings each week for the past month. It is so good. If you have an Aldi's store near you, try their maple syrup. It is wonderful!

  6. I applaud you, I would like to share a recipe with you. I think you and your family would love it. "Taco Soup" serves 6.
    1-lb. hamburger
    1 med. onion chopped
    3 cloves garlic minced
2-15oz. cans crushed tomatoes or one large
1-14.5oz. can red kidney beans- drained and rinsed
2-14.5oz. black beans - drained and rinsed
1-14.5oz. pinto beans - drained and rinsed
    1-14.5oz. whole corn with liquid
    1 packet taco seasoning
    1 packet ranch dressing
    2 cups of beef broth
    salt and pepper to taste

Brown hamburger with the onion and garlic, season with salt and pepper. Drain of excess fat. Stir in taco and ranch seasoning. Add the remaining ingredients. After you have browned the meat, you can place in crock pot and let cook for 4 to 6 hours on high. Add more seasoning if needed.

I like to serve with homemade tortilla chips. I buy the big bags of Tortilla wraps, cut them up, deep fry them, as soon as they come out of the fryer, I sprinkle with sea salt.

This is a very filling soup, Hope you enjoy.
