Welcome to Creating a Beautiful Life on Less, a special home tour series

Today we have a home tour by Lisa O. She's a cute mama to two adorable littles. I am so excited to have her here on the blog today!

She is here to share her tips and tricks for creating beautiful on less.

Let's get to it...
-----------------------------

My name is Lisa Ogden.  I live in Mill Creek, Washington, which is just north of Seattle.  I am a native to Seattle and an alumni of the University of Washington.  I am a stay at home mom to two children, Aimee, age 4 and Anders, age 2.  My parents bought the house we live in while it was under construction in 1978.  My husband and I purchased the home in 2008.

My style is simple, organized and clean, with a touch of New Orleans in every room.  I have traveled to New Orleans many times over the past 20 years, and love to incorporate my love for the city in my home decor.

We will start with my entryway.  I have a wall of pictures that I love to look at everyday.  I got all of the frames at Costco!  Also, my hall tree has been in the entryway since I was young, so it always reminds me of coming home.

The entryway opens up to my living room. My living room, or great room, is the hub of the house.  It's where we play, relax and watch TV.  I love the original brick fireplace that still burns wood.

The buffet that is in the corner was an extra piece of furniture my great-grandparents had at their lake cabin.  My mom completely restored it and she gave it to me when I bought the house.

I also have 2 dogs, who love this space!

The formal dining room is off of the living room.  It has the original wood furniture my parents put there in the 1980's.  Also, another restored item, an old sewing machine, from my great-grandparents' lake cabin.

My favorite thing in the dining room is a painting I brought home from an artist in Jackson Square in New Orleans.

Off of the formal dining room is the kitchen.  The cabinets are original and have been painted.

  1. Your home is lovely. And I'm stunned that you have exactly the same hutch/buffet that I have. Twenty years ago, we moved here and left a house that had one built in in the dining area. I hated to leave it and my husband bought me one like yours. It is a piece I treasure.

  2. I love how most of the furniture pieces have a family connection. I'm loving the vibe from your colorful New Orleans artwork. What a joy to raise your family in the very house you grew up in!

  3. I love how many of the furniture pieces in your home have a history and a story behind them. I greatly prefer this style of home decorating to the overly perfect designer type homes.
