Recently we've been participating in a writing club with some homeschooling friends of ours. Every other week we get together and give the kids a topic. The children then have two weeks to write a paper and come up with an illustration of some type. It has been so neat to see how their creativity and writing has flourished since we started. This writing approach is very child led. We give them the tools and support them from the side lines, but it is really up to them to make the time to write and think. I have loved seeing the excitement they have for this new writing plan we are working on. They are making the time themselves to research and study whatever topic is given to them. As a mama, it is so fun to see those little light bulbs going off. It is a thrill to see all the tools you have been given them, start to be used. We still go over edits together, they have weekly writing/grammar lessons, and they must follow a 5 paragraph format, but they are creating on their own. I love it!
I am thankful for moments like these that remind me how homeschooling is working for this family. They are thriving and that is what matters. I love these little chickadees!
